The state of Illinois currently abides by a number of important marriage rules and regulations. These rules apply to all car rental Chicago customers planning on getting married in Chicago. Before walking down the aisle in Chi-Town (and the suburban cook County) couples must first obtain a legal marriage license from one of the six Cook County Clerk's Offices. The downtown location can be found at the Cook County Building on North Clark Street. In order to be eligible for a marriage license, both the bride and groom must be present. Both individuals must be over the age of 18 and be of opposite sex. Blood relatives are not permitted to marry in Chicago. It is important to note that all out-of-state visitors applying for a marriage license in Illinois are still bound by the laws of their home state. A few exceptions exist to the aforementioned rules. Under state law, first cousins that are older than 50 years of age can legally marry. Applicants who are 16 and 17 years of age may also marry with parental consent, a copy of their birth certificate and a second form of identification. A small fee of $30 cash is charged for each marriage license. All marriage licenses are valid for 60 days. In order for your marriage to be recognized as legal the bottom section of the marriage license must be signed by the individual performing the ceremony and returned to the Clerk's office.
