More than 75 years after opening, the Adler Planetarium continues to be a leader in its field, providing luxury car rentals Chicago visitors with two full-size planetarium theaters. No other museum in the world can rival the Adler's collection of historical artifacts, astronomical tools and rare books, so what are you waiting for? Embark on an intergalactic adventure during your upcoming luxury car rentals Chicago vacation with the help of Chicago's Museum Campus and the Adler Planetarium.

Touch the Sky

When the Adler opened it was the first planetarium in the Western Hemisphere. Today, it is the oldest operating planetarium and the world's only dual-planetarium theater facility. Since opening in 1930, visitors to the planetarium have been fascinated by representations of the night sky in the historic Sky Theater Planetarium thanks to the powerful Zeiss projector. This state-of-the-art projector is capable of reproducing the movement of every aspect of the night sky. Visitors to the Alder Planetarium are also encouraged to take a ride on the StarRider Theater, a completely digital virtual outer space environmental simulator. Powered by Digistar 3 simulator technology (which is also used in fighter jet simulators), this ride allows visitors to explore the universe easily and efficiently. In addition to educational shows, the Adler Planetarium also hosts showings of SonicVision, one of the world's finest digitally animated planetarium music productions. Other exciting features inside the Planetarium include a scale display of the Milky Way Solar System, the Atwood Celestial Sphere and a fragment of a meteorite. Many of mankind's most important astronomical instruments are also on display at the Adler including astrolabes, armillary spheres, celestial gloves and sundials. A number of antique mathematical, navigational and optical instruments are preserved inside the Adler as well. More than 2000 rare books are housed at the Adler, including a dozen incunabula (books printed before 1500).
