Fly away
Also located in Jackson Park is The Museum of Science and Industry. The building was built for the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition, and it the only surviving building from that time. When you visit with your Chicago travel guide, you can see some of the permanent exhibits that are found here. There is one that recreates a flight between San Francisco and Chicago using a real Boeing 727 jet plane. There is a re-created coal mine that will show you what work underneath the earth is like. And there is now even a U-505 submarine that was the only German submarine captured by the United States during World War II.
The museum is also dedicated to science and has exhibits such as decoding genetics, which looks at how genetics affects human and animal development. You can blast off into space in the Henry Crown Space Center. Here there is the Apollo 8 capsule that took astronauts on the first lunar orbital mission. There is even a life-size model of a space shuttle.
The 59th Street Harbor offers many activities for the whole family - on land and on the water.
